2007 Photographer of the Year? - Guess who

That was the question that was answered this past weekend as the Professional Photographers of Canada - Manitoba (herein called the PPOC MB) headed to the McPhillips Street Station for our Casino Digitale Manitoba convention.

It was a fantastic weekend. Guest speakers included Craig Minielly ( of Craig's Actions) and André Amyot, (the Photo Coach).

Our awards banquet was wonderful as well. I walked away with 4 awards, not the least being the 2007 Photographer of the year. Man I was pretty pumped up! Seeing as this is my first year in the PPOC MB.

I also walked away with the Best Commercial Award, the Best Wedding Award

and the 2007 Best Wedding Album Award. You can check out Jenn and Jason's award winning wedding book here.

To go along with our Casino theme, all four of my print entries and wedding album hung. In fact I got a full house. Two excellent and 3 merits. (for those in the dark, it's how we score photos in competition.)

Congratulations to my fellow nominees that hung photos and took away some awards as well, Fred, Brenda and Bruce.

Here's to next year!

and wow, what a night!

Paris vs. Grand Forks

A number of weeks ago Trevor blogged about their trip to Paris. Around that same time my wife and I went on our own little trip, mind you we only made it to Grand Forks. Okay I know what you're thinking. It doesn't even hold a candle to Paris and well.... you're right. It doesn't. But it does have some interesting small town Americana, signs that capture my eye and of course my lens.

One night I went out with my camera and had some fun capturing what I feel are the best parts of Grand Forks. At least the best parts that I found on a short night's drive.

Enjoy the lights of ND.

This is great, a drive up LC.

The interior and exterior of the famous Whitey's, serving patrons since 1925.

My favorite place to roll ten.

I had to add this next one, not as a great photo - but you just need to eat at the Texas Roadhouse anytime you are in Grand Forks. Fantastic steak! Closest I've come to Texas this near the 49th.
