Hard Rain
Last Sunday we had a thunderstorm weather system move over our house. For those ill informed, my wife and I love storms - in fact when given the chance we like to storm chase. One of my favorite summer past times is photographing lightning (bet you didn't see that coming). Right..... light, camera and bad weather. Love it.
We live in a most opportune location because we're on the edge of town and can see the weather coming due to the lack of trees and buildings. (of course being on the prairies helps a lot.) Thought you might get a kick out of how that storm system looked to us.
Check out that high speed wind sheer on the cloud right in the center. The temperature dropped 4 degrees in minutes.

Unfortunately that isn't a funnel cloud in the bottom right.

Of course, the wall of rain that follows the front.

Here's how it looked from our front yard as it approached, pretty menacing.

Light Works - Part 2
I often have made comments on this blog about light - how I see it and use it to my advantage to take something ordinary and sweeten it up to a "real" photograph. Just because you find something cool to shoot doesn't mean it is worth it. It needs to be done right. Here is a good example.
Was in the city today for a few errands and a PPOC meeting in the evening and in the early afternoon I came across this building, thought it would be a cool photo. Here's how it looked at 2:30 pm.

Again, these were shot with the Canon SD700. We're pushing the IS (image stabilization) to the max, shot hand held at 1/6 - 1/4 a second. Hence not the sharpest files. Really one should go back with a tripod and a 4x5.

Finding Your Wedding Photographer

Many people seem to struggle with the task of finding the best photographer for their wedding day. To help out I put some thoughts down on paper. Click on finding a wedding photographer to get some insights on hiring the pro that will develop your wedding memories into something that you'll love and cherish.
By shopping early you will more likely be in a better position to make an assessment regarding a wedding photographer’s style. Visit various wedding photography studios and talk to as many wedding photographers as possible. Although you should look at as many sample pictures as you can, don’t fall into the common trap that some bride and grooms do; becoming overwhelmed and confused by the sheer number of photography displays, wedding studio advertisements and marketing buzzwords usually associated with various styles of wedding photography.
If you are impressed immediately by a photographer’s style you are starting to make progress regardless of the category of their style.
And it may just be the match you have been looking for.

Kristen and Jeremy - (e)session

These photos are sporting our new retro look. They have a feel and look from the past that I'm really getting in to. They kinda defy the sharp, over saturated digital look of the last few years. I'm a film shooter at heart and love to portray that look with digital images.
I've always liked the colors of Polaroid film from the 70's.
Here's my homage to the past, hope you dig the look.
